Safety: Equipment & Maintenance

An essential part of safe cycling is having a bicycle that you can rely on not to fail at a critical moment. There are also a few bike accessories that we regard as essential for safety.

Maintenance

• Tires properly inflated
• Brakes adjusted and brake pads acceptable
• Gears adjusted
• Nothing loose

Conduct an "ABC quick check" before every ride: Air in tires, Brakes working, Chains, cranks, and cassette functioning properly, Quick release levers tight. Then check the bike for loose or broken parts.

• Front and rear lights
• High visibility clothing
