Collision with motor vehicle at 2433-2437 6th St
reported by Himgan Wibisono
Date:
2010-07-21
Crash type:
Collision with motor vehicle
Geometry:
Vehicle turned into passing bike
Vehicle type:
Car
Description:
Was riding road-bike on my way to west-oak bart station. There's a funky curve on route where the main road (6th st.) curves around and turns into Dwight crescent rd. but 6th st. itself continues on as a minor road for a block. There is a stop sign for cars coming from that minor 6th st to go onto this curve. As I approached this curve I saw a car approaching the stop sign and got into a complete stop. I then look back to make sure there's no car behind me that would go straight onto the minor 6th st. As I was about to pass the car in the stop sign and I turned my head back forward again all of sudden I notice that the car was right in front of me and as I hit the breaks my front wheel hit the front-left of the car. I then remember tumbling twice; first onto the hood of the car then flipped over and hit the pavement. I tried to get up but got extremely woozy and sensed stiffness on my back. I checked to make sure my I can move my arms, hands, legs and feet and although felt some pain on a few parts I was happy to be able to move them all. I then saw driver came out of the car and kept saying "sorry, I didn't see you". So my speculation is that when she was in complete stop she focused on the traffic coming from her right without paying too much attention to the traffic coming from her left (direction I was coming from) because at a glance you can see if there are cars coming or not. I was taken to ER strapped onto a stretcher fearing that I broke my back or spine. Luckily nothing is broken. Add note to this report
