Collision with other bicycle at Sammamish River Trail
reported by Phil
Date:
2010-07-03
Crash type:
Collision with other bicycle
Geometry:
Bike turned into oncoming bike
Description:
I was heading southbound on the Samm River Trail on a straightaway at about 15-18 mph (my bike does not have speedometer). I was riding alone with no riders in front or behind. I saw a northbound biker with a "kid trailer" behind going relatively slowly, and a couple other bikers behind her. Just as I was approaching the "kid trailer" the biker behind her decided to make a pass, coming into my lane, and striking me head on. Both of us were thrown from our bikes. The other biker (named Eric) had cuts on his hand, but otherwise was apparently uninjured and ambulatory. He clearly was at fault, and apologized for the accident. He did not give me his contact information. Add note to this report
Factors & Lessons
Factor:
Other cyclist took eyes off road/traffic in front
Lesson:
Ride defensively
Lesson:
Sometimes it doesn't matter what you do
Explanation:
Bystanders were VERY helpful. I would like to extend appreciation, but I don't know how to reach them. One was a chiropractor (I think named Angela?) was was particularly helpful diagnosing my injuries, and keeping my leg immobilized.
