Solo crash at Burke Gilman Trail
reported by Sander Lazar
Date: 2010-03-14
Crash type: Solo crash
Geometry: Bike lost stability and crashed
Description: Early in the morning, it was sunny but below freezing. At this point on the Burke Gilman trail one must make a sharp turn to cross the train tracks. Black ice/frost had formed overnight on the rubber mat between the rail tracks (this rubber was apparently placed there to promote traction but is obviously not an optimal material). While turning, my wheels slid out from under me, and I fell hard on my shoulder, which 24 hours later is still very sore. My head hit the pavement pretty hard, too, so it's a good thing I was wearing a helmet. Add note to this report
