Collision with motor vehicle at 248-298 Florentia St
reported by Michael Falk
Date: 2010-02-10
Crash type: Collision with motor vehicle
Geometry: Bike turned into vehicle path
Vehicle type: Car
Description: I was traveling west-bound on Nickerson St and making a left-hand-turn with a green light onto Florentia St. Cars headed east-bound on Nickerson were stopped all the back through the intersection beyond Florentia, The drivers in the eastbound lanes had left a space for vehicles to turn left. I yielded before making my turn to make sure the cars were stopped. Then I pedaled through the intersection and was struck by a car traveling eastbound through the intersection on the shoulder. The driver claimed that there were three lanes on Nickerson St west of Florentia. When I went to examine the intersection after the crash, I could see that Nickerson west of Florentia is clearly marked for only 2 lanes, however drivers will often use the shoulder of the road west of Florentia as a separate lane.
