Crash type:
Solo crash
Geometry:
Bike ran into object
Description:
While riding my bike home tonight, I hit an improperly fitted manhole cover on westbound NE 1st St and 102nd Ave NE in downtown Bellevue. The manhole cover was raised enough (see photo below) that it instantly punctured both my inner tubes, ripped holes in my tires and, it turns out, did irreparable damage to my wheels. As soon as I hit it, I lost control of the bike and ended up skidding along the ground on my side. Luckily I was not actually hurt beyond a few bruises and a hole in my glove. More luckily there were no vehicles near me when it happened otherwise I could have been crushed. One motorist was kind enough to stop and check if I was okay. Add note to this report
