Solo crash at 2200 Westlake Ave
reported by KDH
Date: 2009-11-05
Crash type: Solo crash
Geometry: Bike lost stability and crashed
Description: Screwed by the SLUT
Like many before me, I add myself to the legions statistics of those who have caught a front wheel in the South Lake Union Trolley tracks on Westlake and dumped. Fortunately the car behind and in the next lane to my left (where I was thrown) was able to stop on the wet pavement (had about 2ft to spare before being flattened).

PS thanks to helpful onlookers - including one nearby employee who states "You are the **tenth** bicyclist I've seen crash on this very spot. The SLUT tracks will kill someone soon.

Factors & Lessons
Factor: Trail route over tracks
Factor: Wet road conditions
Factor: Not possible to do perpendicular crossing
Factor: Tracks parallel in roadway in curb lane (SLUT)
Lesson: Avoid area completely
Lesson: NO BICYCLES ON WESTLAKE with SLUT TRACKS, period.
Explanation: Can't do it - Even if you're careful, and try to ride outside (to right) or between those rails, you'll eventually end up getting stuck by those tracks. - JUST STAY OFF WESTLAKE - we have to give up and use other streets, stay on sidewalk on westlake.
