Description: Bike lane ends half-way up hill (westbound). City of Bothell/Snohomish County (neither will claim responsibility) put in a wide sidewalk and planting strip but left off bike lane, forcing riders to inhibit traffic heading up the hill to Meridian. Downhill (eastbound) side has wide shoulder, but it is interrupted by curbs at the intersection that present a hazard to cyclists traveling at the speed limit. Full report

Description: Bike lane missing on SR 527 across I-405. WA DOT purposefully did not include bike lanes, stating that they feel it is safer not to have a bike lane marking the location of where drivers may expect to see cyclists, although roadway is wide enough to accomodate one. Traffic changing lanes and exiting freeway make it difficult to determine the safest lane position. Also, the bike lane that starts up south of I-405 on SR 527 southbound has multiple unnecessary lane changes, adding to the risk. Northbound SR 527 bike lanes approaching I-405 from the south are also poorly designed, as is the north side of the bridge when heading northbound on SR 527, where it crosses an exit ramp.
