Description:
There is a wide section of bad pavement in the middle of the intersection of Richards Rd and SE 26th St. I encounter the pavement when turning left (south) onto Richards Rd from SE 26th St.
The wide area of affected pavement is torn up a over an inch or two deep and is covered by gravel from the deteriorating pavement. This irregular pavement makes the turn onto Richards Rd risky as someone with skinny tires (and actually wider tires at this point) could get the wheel trapped in a rut and lose control. The gravel and the bump provides an additional hazard. Last year this hazard existed, but was easily avoidable. This spring it has grown to the point where it is very difficult to avoid, even if you know it's there. Full report

Description:
Apparently, there was a car accident recently at this intersection. The hazard appears to be windshield glass. However, there was no glass whatsoever on the roadway. All of it was dumped on the sidewalk @ the NW corner of this intersection. Most of the glass is in one pile on the sidewalk directly in front of the entrance to the bike /pedestrian ramp which passes over I90. Much of it, however, is also scattered elsewhere on the surrounding area of the sidewalk. Full report

Description:
When the snow came in mid-January, local street crews dropped lots of grit on the roads to provide additional tire traction for cars. Now that the snow has melted, it appears the grit was swept away from the driving lanes and into the bike lanes. The bike lanes on Lake WA Blvd are now layered in this grit, tree limbs and other natural / man-made debris. This is a hazard to bike tires and stability, especially at downhill speeds. Full report

The W-bound lane of SE 60th St in Bellevue, between roughly 120th Av SE & 112th Av SE, and the adjoining emergency lane (used by cyclists) is rough, cracked, potholed, disintigrating asphalt. There is construction at the Eastside Catholic High School property which may be partly to blame. But, this roughly 1/4-1/2 mile section needs to be resurfaced. The E-bound side is actually in pretty good shape. Full report

Description:
This walkway though the Mercer Slough is narrow and used by pedestrians and cyclists both. Unfortunately some cycling groups speed through here making it very dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians coming from the opposite direction. I know some families who refuse to use the pathway because of speeding cyclists. I narrowly missed running into an oncoming group of cyclists as they swung wide around a curve and into my side of the path. The solution is for cyclists to SLOW DOWN! Speeding through here gives all cyclists a bad name. Full report

Description:
The southbound shoulder of 114th Ave SE, when approaching the Main St overpass, is not visible to cars coming off Main St on the far (south) side of Main St. The road is even painted with the appearance of a bike lane which ends where the cars appear. My advice is to move to the left side of the traffic lane until you get past Main St. If you are travelling at a pedestrian pace, then it will be better to stay on the right shoulder.
I have alerted the Bellevue Police and the Bellevue Traffic Engineering Division. They are planning to install sharrows to direct bicycles away from the shoulder. Full report |
