The train track has significant ruts next to the rail. The rail crosses the road at a 45 degree angle. This is enough to catch a front tire on a bike traveling northbound or southbound on Jefferson. This is particularly important because OCTA is removing bike lanes from Lakeview, Kraemer, and Tustin avenues, and declaring Jefferson as the North/South bike route to the Santa Ana River. Most all the asphalt on Louise Ave in this area needs to be replaced. Pot holes keep forming all the time. Patching the pot holes have been a temporary fix. It is like riding on tiles. I use that route as an alternative to Balboa which is extremely dangerous due to automobiles driving well over the speed limit and limited room on the shoulder to cycle safely. Full report

The pavement between the train tracks and the bridge is in significant need of resurfacing. The road here is also curvy, and slight downhill going east to west, making me feel nervous that cars are speeding and no able to see me at certain points. The only saving grace is that there is a parked car lane which I ride the edge of to give me more space with traffic, which never has any parked cars in it. However, the road is really bad everywhere and its a weaving game at points to avoid hitting the bad holes. Full report

single-direction grate with gaps of more than an inch, almost two inches, underlaid with a second single-direction grate crosswise from the first... but the lower grate is too far beneath the upper one to prevent it from partially swallowing bike tires. Also, the outer frame of the grate is broken at one corner, & one slat of the frame rises about 2.5" from the asphalt surface. Nasty sewer water keeps the lower grill mostly submerged & laps at the upper grill. Both grills are dished inwards by the weight of frequent automobile traffic. Especially going northbound uphill it's a tough ride and no easy way to circumvent this bad spot exists when traveling from Aliso Viejo(south OC) to Irvine since entire laguna woods is a gated community.
