I was almost hit here on Aug 12 while wearing an ANSI lime vest and 3M Diamond Grade reflective strips on my helmet. The driver of a 90s BMW 325i with God Bless America tag was not paying attention and swerved/brake locked as I was bailing. I probably would have gotten hit if I didn't have a mirror. Also, this was on a hill where I would sometimes like to get out of the saddle, but I can't when I need to pay attention to my mirror for crap like this. Motorists - for the most part - are aggressive on the majority of Whitesburg drive. Driving well over the speed limit, passing too close despite 2 travel lanes on either side and a central turning lane. Have been honked and yelled at numerous times. Share the road signs exist on this road, but the road is so large, the SUVs and trucks so big, and vehicles travel so quickly that signs are not noticed because they are too small, on short 'bike height' posts, and placed infrequently. This is a patch of spilled bumpy concrete that's right after a traffic light. To try to avoid it causes problems with traffic from behind. To go over it improperly can cause tire twisting, especially for a beginning commuter. If it can't be chipped off of the road, it should probably be spray painted day-glo orange or something so people who don't normally take that route aren't caught unaware. Full report
