Location: Mt Vernon Trail, Alexandria, VA 22314, USA
Geometry: Cyclist passing runner around curve in wrong lane
Injury: Serious
Description: I was approaching the curve slowly because for all I know there could be a pedestrian right around the curve. Just as I got to the curve another cyclist was passing a runner, both the other cyclist and the runner were going in the opposite direction I was going in. I could not avoid the oncoming cyclist who was in my lane because it was on a bridge with cyclone fencing on both sides. The other cyclist and I hit head on. I was immediately in extraordinary pain around my left shoulder, and my left hand was bleeding. The other cyclist was uninjured. He took my phone number and left. I was in too much pain to care about who he was. The runner he had been passing stayed with me, and walked with me to a spot where a friend could pick my bike and me up. I never heard from the other cyclist again. Full report
