During organized ride, a rider was north bound on Broadway. At 28th, a divided highway with a wide grass median, he crossed the southbound lanes and entered the far left of three lanes on 28th, which is a short merge on-lane. He proceeded north and switched lanes to his right. He failed to hear or see and approaching cement truck, which was unable to stop and hit him. He was dragged under the truck and killed. Note: I am not sure about date, age, and exact conditioons. This is what I heard from someone who came on the scene. It is a very dangerous intersection with traffic approaching at avg 60 mph. I consistently underestimate the speed of oncoming traffic at this intersection. I understand the county is planning a stoplight here. Full report

Description:
Right turning motorist southbound on 18th (turning onto Broadway, a 4-lane arterial, state highway) hit southeast bound cyclist on Broadway multi-use path near University of Colorado. Driver said she would not have noticed the bicyclist under her car had there not been two cyclists also traveling southeast bound immediately behind the first cyclists who hit the car and yelled. The only damage was the front wheel of the bicycle and one of the car's tires got a flat.
There is a stop sign for southbound traffic at 18th and Broadway and crosswalk across 18th for the path. Full report |
