Crash reports for Gardena, CA

Location: 776-782 W 182nd St, Gardena, CA 90248, USA
Geometry: Vehicle turned into oncoming bike
Injury: Serious
Description: I was going eastbound on 182nd, while driver was going westbound on the same street. Behind of me a bus was coming and the driver decided that rather than waiting for the bus and myself to pass before entering the parking lot, he should just step on the gas and make a sharp left turn in front of us both. The bus was able to reduce its speed, too bad I was already too far ahead and got ran over. The driver then proceeded to park his car and neglected assisting me. Bleeding and quite out of it I was able to reach for my bag and grab my cell phone, calling then 911. Upon the police arrival the driver revealed that he had no insurance, during his police statement he contradicted himself first by saying that he didn't see me at all (you run someone over and don't see them? I am 6' tall), then saying that he miscalculated my speed and couldn't avoid the crash, he was found at fault. I was immobilized and taken to UCLA Medical Center, where a series of procedures were initiated in order to diagnose my injuries... Results, I am stuck with a bunch of bills (I unfortunately didn't have health insurance coverage), still injured, got some nerve damage, and UCLA has "lost" my file, which makes it quite difficult to pursue anything with them... Giving my registration number to another person, which is funny, the same number still has my name on it when it comes to them sending me bills. The driver is still driving happily ever after, hasn't shown any interest in partaking on the accident responsibility. I then contacted a lawyer, who dropped the case after determining that the driver lived in a "apt building", so did the chiropractor whom I went to in search of help, no "juice" no service. I am not saying that I was expecting anything to be "given" to me, I just wanted some justice...
People get into cars and they forget that out of the "cages" they still have limbs like everyone else, the stupid illusory man/machine integration gets to be ridiculous at times! I know that accidents happen, that is could be worse as other people say... but I am still angry about it nonetheless.
I miss riding my 20 daily miles, I know it is not much, but to me it was everything.
I miss my bike, even though it is an old Miyata Seven Twelve, it is mine and it used to be in excellent shape. Now it is destroyed. :-( Full report
