Crash reports for Calgary, AB
Location:
39 St NW, Calgary, AB, Canada
Geometry:
Vehicle backed into bike
Injury:
Moderate
Description:
I was riding home from work around 5 pm and came to the intersection of 32 ave and 39 st. I was riding on a bike path and came to a stop at the cross walk. When the light changed I started moving and noticed that an SUV was blocking the crosswalk in the right hand turning lane that is separated by a cement pad. I moved to ride behind the SUV and re-connect with the bike path on the other side of 39 st. As I came closer to the SUV I noticed that it had begun to back out of the turning land (into on-coming traffic from behind) and noticed that I would not have time to stop. I collided with the SUV on the rear driver's side leaving a size-able dent in the quarter panel. I was thrown from my bike back into the intersection but, thankfully, the other drivers had all stopped and I was in no danger of getting hit multiple times. My bike and helmet were badly damaged but I had not broken any bones or received any seriously grave injuries. Full report
